I wrote this in early 2007 – this have been quiet about this couple but the year of the Pig isn’t gone yet so…I’m keeping this on here for a while more to see what happens…

Reams of newsprint space were devoted to the news that Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan were astrologically miscast with each other or perfect for each other, depending on which news report you read.

What does BaZi say about these two Bollywood stars?

Aishwarya’s birthday is Nov 1 1973 – the time of birth according to Internet sources is Tiger Hour (3-5am). This is her chart and her luck pillars.

 Aishwarya Rai is a Xin Metal Day Master – Xin Metal, in the study of BaZi, is delicate, fine, beautiful jewellery so Rai is in the right line as an actress and model. But what does BaZi say about her love life? Depending again on which newsreports are used, Rai and Abhishek first met on the set of a movie in 2003, and then worked together again in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Based on Aishwarya’s BaZi, it looks likely that the relationship may have sparked as early 2004 but may also have only really developed in 2006.

In 2003, Ding Fire, enters the graveyard during the Gui Wei (Water Goat) year. Ding Fire, to a Xin Metal Day Master (which is Aishwarya’s Day Master) represents the Seven Killings or boyfriend star. So a relationship ends this year – most likely her relationship with Salman Khan. As that relationship was reported variously as ‘abusive’, this would tie in with the complete Bullying Punishment that takes place in 2003, with a complete Goat, Dog, Ox and Dragon formation in her chart. A Bullying Punishment usually represents a situation where the person is trapped in a hostile situation and has no way out.
In the year 2004, the year of Jia Shen (Wood Monkey), Rai enters a new luck pillar of Bing Yin (Fire Tiger). Fire, to her Xin Metal Day Master, particular Bing Fire, represents the Direct Officer star. For a woman, the Direct Officer star is also the husband star. So Rai, since 2004, has been in Husband Luck. This change in luck pillar is also significant because it brings her into her favourable luck pillars. This chart is cold and needs warmth. Her Day Master is also strong, so favours Wealth, Officer and Output. The Bing Yin 10 year luck pillar is strong Wealth and strong Officer, all favourable elements. The Punishment Formation that previously affected her chart, is gone so her thinking and mental state is also more positive and optimistic.
Now, the Jia Shen pillar comes with a saying ‘ Geng Metal Chop Jia Wood, Produce Ding Fire’. So there is a boyfriend (Ding Fire is the 7 Killings star or boyfriend star of a Xin Metal) on the periphery in 2004. According to news reports, she was dating her co-star Vivek Oberoi at that time.

In 2005, the Wood Rooster year, there is a Harm to the Month pillar, which is the Dog. As the boyfriend star is inside the Dog in Rai’s chart, this indicates that her relationship with Oberoi puttered out in 2005, either due to opposition from her friends or her fans. In 2006, the year of the Fire Dog, Rai’s husband star appears in the annual pillar and her relationship with Abhishek probably took off during this year.

In the year 2007, the year of the Fire Pig, there is a combination between the 7 Killings star, and the Hurting Officer star. This combines away the Hurting Officer star in Rai’s chart. The Hurting Officer star, as it’s name implies, is the star that goes against the Direct Officer star. This suggests that her opposition to marriage, or focus on career, is reduced, she stops pushing away men and is now more attracted to a proposal of marriage since the star that prevents her Day Master from combining with the Officer star, the Hurting Officer star, is removed.

But what about compatibility? Are Rai and Abhishek compatible or astrologically mis-cast? Here is Abhishek’s Bazi Chart and luck pillars.

Abhishek, born Feb 5th 1976  is a Ding Fire Day Master. Time of birth is not know but it is likely he is born at night, or late evening, given his appearance (most Ding Fire born at night are good looking). He is currently going through Gui Si (Water Snake) luck pillars. In BaZi speak, we say he is going through Rob Wealth Luck. This indicates that he’s immensely popular, and going through good Fame and Reputation Luck.

So are Rai and Abhishek compatible? Well, on a basic level, compatibility can be ascertained by looking at whether two people are attracted to each other. In BaZi, we tend to gravitate or be attracted towards people who have the elements we need or like. In Rai’s case, Wood, her Wealth Element, is a favourable element. Abhishek’s chart has strong wood elements, since he is born in the season of wood, and also, sits on the Pig, which is known as the Growth of Wood. So, we could say, she’s attracted to him. In Abhishek’s case, he’s a strong Ding Fire, so Metal is a favourable element for him. In Rai’s chart, Metal is a very strong element, as she is born in the Dog month, which is part of the Metal season, and also she has two Oxes in her chart – Ox is known as the Storage of Metal.

So, attraction is present. But are they *meant* for each other? That surely is the meaning of compatibility?

A higher level of compatibility analysis in BaZi involves extracting the ‘qualities’ of the person’s spouse and then comparing them to their girlfriend/fiancee to see if the person fits the bill. In this respect, based on the BaZi charts of Rai and Abhishek, the compatibility of the two does not seem to be too strong. Also, looking at Abhishek’s chart, there is a Ungrateful Punishment formation between his Bazi Chart and his Luck PIllar, and more importantly, a clash formation between his spouse palace and his luck pillar. So Abhishek’s fans may not take too kindly to his marriage and this could affect his star power and reputation. Furthermore, 2007 is a Fu Yin year for Abhishek’s Day Pillar and it involves his spouse palace. Generally, getting married in a Fu Yin year (a year when your Day Pillar ‘disappears’ in lay person speak) is not a good idea as it is usually not a good year in which to make sudden decisions or major decisions, such as getting married.

Of course, BaZi is only 1/3 of the equation. Probably as long as Abhishek does not act with his wife in a film, things will probably be okay. Plus, it is only a year and if they get past that blip (or get married on a good day), the problems may well be minimal.
